The WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) is the custodian for global data on indicators SDG 6.1.1 (Proportion of population using safely managed drinking water services and 6.2.1 (Proportion of population using safely managed sanitation services, including a hand-washing facility with soap and water). WHO is also the custodian for SDG 6.3.1 (Proportion of wastewater safely treated). Countries through their national SDG 6 monitoring system are in charge of their national monitoring.

As SDG reporting is country driven, it is therefore, paramount to enhance the capacity within countries to enable them generate information for reporting on SDG6 targets. To this end, monitoring tools and methods have been proposed and need to be introduced into the countries. This workshop aims at building the capacity of national focal points responsible for monitoring SDG6 targets.

Workshop Objectives:
1. Present the baseline status of SDG 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3.1 targets in EMR countries.
2. Train the national focal points for monitoring SDG 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3.1 targets on the updated reporting methodologies.
3. Train the national focal points on validating the JMP estimates on targets 6.1 and 6.2
4. Introduce the in-depth reporting tool and process (including feedback from pilot countries) for national monitoring SDG 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3.1 targets.
