National Focal Points

The SEIS national focal points (NFPs) are the main counterparts and lead the project’s activities at national level. They are high-level officials appointed by the ministry responsible for the environment and the national statistical office. They ensure national coordination and implementation by establishing links to relevant experts in other ministries and national organisations responsible for particular thematic areas addressed under the ENI SEIS II South Support Mechanism.

The overall method of implementation of the project is to build on the Eionet model in the ENP South region.

Eionet is a partnership network of the EEA and its member and cooperating countries, involving more than 1 000 experts and 350 national institutions across Europe.

The NFPs work closely with the national implementation team (NIT) to drive the projects in their countries. The NIT — the leading appointed authority — comprises experts from relevant ministries and institutions involved in the different environmental thematic areas. Establishing links to relevant expertise in other ministries and national administrations is a step towards setting up coordination structures at national level. The NIT brings together different expertise around the joint task of securing transparent access to environmental information.

In addition, support through dedicated national assistants is anticipated to ensure the continuous engagement of national stakeholders and efficiency of the NIT’s work, as well as coordination of project events and implementation of activities at country level.
