SEIS is a collaborative approach aiming to organise environmental information based on key principles, including:

• managing data as near as possible to the source;
• providing readily available and easily accessible data;
• producing once; using many times.

The overall objective of SEIS is to improve the knowledge base for environmental policy and reduce administrative burden.
