Plan Bleu and the Mediterranean Action Plan/ Coordination Unit have received a mandate from the Contracting Parties to prepare a report on the State of the Environment and Development in the Mediterranean and to present it to the Conference of Parties of the Barcelona Convention by end 2019.

This report will be a continuation of the reports A Sustainable Future for the Mediterranean (2005), the State of the Environment and Development in the Mediterranean report (2009) and the State of the Mediterranean Marine and Coastal Environment (2012), which still are reference documents on the
Mediterranean. This new report aims at describing main challenges and trends linked to the environment and sustainable development in the region, as well as responses and emerging solutions. It aims at becoming the new reference document.

Focussing on specific topics for which information is still rare or dispersed, Plan Bleu is gathering a group of around 30 experts from different international, Mediterranean, national and local organizations during a workshop in Marseille on December 12th and 13th, 2017.

The workshop aims to present and share on specific topics the available information for the Mediterranean region, possible case studies, the gaps to be filled in the short and medium term, and potential information sources. The objective being that, at the end of the workshop, there will be available elements directly
usable in the report.
