Public voting open for Istanbul Environment Friendly City Award

The Secretariat of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) - Barcelona Convention launched the Istanbul Environment Friendly City Award to be conferred to Mediterranean coastal cities.

This award aims to recognize and reward the efforts of local authorities to improve the environment and the quality of life and promote sustainable development in Mediterranean coastal towns and cities. It also aims to encourage local authorities to move towards a more environment friendly future and enable them to act as a role-model to inspire other towns and cities.

The three following Mediterranean coastal cities have been short listed:
- Crikvenica, Croatia
- Izmir, Turkey
- Tel Aviv - Yafo, Israel

As per the nomination and selection process, the short listed cities are now subject to an electronic public voting that will provide a final ranking. Based on this ranking, the Jury will select the winning city. Finally, the Award will be conferred during the 20th Ordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention (COP 20, Tirana, Albania, 17-20 December 2017).

The public voting has just been launched for a period of two weeks until the 21st of November 2017. Please use the following link to access the relevant platform dedicated to the public consultation:
