10 March 2017 | The Eastern Partnership Panel on Environment and Climate Change
The Directorate-General for the Environment (DG ENV) and DG NEAR brought together representatives from ENI Eastern Partership countries, EU and international organisations (EEA, UNECE, UN Environment, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Regional Environmental Centres, The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) and non-governmental organisations (representatives from both Ecoforum and Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum) to develop an action list for the period 2017-2018, translating the Eastern Partnership Declaration on Environment and Climate Change into concrete actions.
This is a follow-up meeting from the first Eastern Partnership Ministerial Meeting on Environment and Climate Change in October 2016. During the first meeting under the Slovak Presidency, the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration (the Luxembourg Declaration) confirmed the commitment to increasing the level of cooperation between countries in the areas of the environment and climate change, and promoting sustainable development and the transition to a green and circular economy:
The Declaration reiterates:
'the need for good enviromnental data in line with SEIS principles' and
“efforts in improving and sharing environmental information in line with the principles of SEIS,
in order to ensure transparency, accountability and support evidence-based decision-making'.
This meeting focused on drafting an action plan to implement the provisions of the Luxembourg Declaration. Deliverables from the action plan will be reviewed at the next Eastern Partnership Summit under the Estonian Presidency on 24 November 2017.
