27 August 2019 | The Government of Ukraine has approved a new procedure for state air monitoring
The Procedure was developed by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine in the framework of Ukraine's fulfillment of obligations in the environmental part of the Association Agreement with the EU with the participation of the ENI SEIS II East project.
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ostap Semerak said that the Procedure is based on Directive No. 2008/50/EC and Directive No. 2004/107/EC, which defines the requirements for the monitoring of atmospheric air and air quality.
“At present, there is no proper monitoring of the atmosphere in Ukraine, so today's decision of the Government is very important. These are completely new approaches for Ukraine. At the same time, these approaches have long and successfully been used in the European Union”, - Ostap Semerak said.
The Government's decision completely revised the old monitoring system, changed the approach to the formation of a network of observations and assessment of atmospheric air quality, clearly defined functions of the monitoring entities, revised mandatory indicators and regimes, introduced a mechanism for mandatory regular information and development long-term action plans.
