27-28 November 2018 | Regional workshop on water - Sharing knowledge and experiences on developing indicator and indicator-based assessment
Management of water resources is one of the main environmental concerns in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus region. Integrated management of water resources against the background of increasing demand from society and the economy make knowledge-based policy implementation crucial to the sustainability of natural resources in the region.
The ENI SEIS II East project has been supporting capacity building at expert and institutional levels to make use of existing data and information to produce policy-relevant assessments and information. Producing regionally comparable information on and assessments of water resources is one of the major activities of the ENI SEIS II East project. In that context, a number of indicators related to quantifying water resources and assessing water quality have been developed with the Eastern Partnership countries. A 2-day regional workshop was organised by the EEA and hosted by Turkey to share knowledge and experiences among the Eastern Partnership countries on indicator development.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the countries to present their substantial progress on water indicators and undertaking indicator-based assessment. A regional state of water report is to be developed during 2019 with close collaboration and cooperation between national water experts and experts at the EEA. The report will provide information on and assessments of the state of water in the region as a contribution to upcoming regional and global environmental assessment and policy process and events such as the Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health in 2021.
