14 June 2018 | The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and Hydromet centre will develop a system for the weather forecast, the state of the air, water and climate change

Countries: Ukraine

Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center signed a memorandum on data exchange. The document on cooperation was signed by Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Mykola Kuzio and Director of Hydromet centre Mykola Kulbida during the presentation of the concept of the national automated system "Open Environment", which took place on June 12, 2018 in Kyiv.

Ukraine still did not have a single standardized system that would display all environmental, weather and climate change data in a user-friendly manner. At the same time, Hydromet centre has a powerful system for collecting indicators, not only in relation to the weather, but also for the climate, the status of rivers and reservoirs, atmospheric air and the collection of agrometeorological indicators.
"Unfortunately, until recently, the use and generalization of information collected by Ukrgidrometcentre was complicated. In fact, these data are extremely important for the analysis of the state of the environment. In the future, they will become open in the framework of the automated system "Open Environment" ", - said Mykola Kuzio, The Deputy Minister.
The Ministry for Environmental Protection and Hydromet centre will start cooperation on data transfer in the near future. He also said that the signed Memorandum will be the basis for deepening cooperation between state bodies in modernizing the network of environmental data collection and speeding up the implementation of the directives of the European Union.
The Deputy Minister also noted the contribution to this process and cooperation with the Open Society Foundation in the framework of the project supported by OMIDIYAR and the "Shared Environmental Information System" (SEIS) project within the framework of the EU Eastern Partnership Initiative, which promotes deepening the European Union's relations with the six Eastern Partnership countries and promotes the process of environmental protection through the strengthening of environmental governance.
