The new procedure for the water monitoring program, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in 2018, came into force as from January 1, 2019. This procedure is aligned with the EU directives and will help to get more information about the state of water in the country.

"From now on, monitoring of water in Ukraine will be carried out according to European standards. The new procedure eliminates duplication of functions between different monitoring entities, provides for a clear procedure and systematic approach to monitoring the state of surface water, groundwater and seawater", - said Mykola Kuzio, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
The new monitoring system covers surface water, groundwater and seawater collects data on an extended list of biological, hydromorphological, chemical and physico-chemical parameters. The number of monitoring sites will increase from hundreds to several thousand across the country.
