Introduction

ENI SEIS II EAST Project

On 1 February 2016, the European Environment Agency (EEA) kicked off the second phase of the EU-funded ENI SEIS II EAST project together with the six Eastern Partnership countries; Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

Completed inception phase

The inception phase focused on determining the project scope, national level consultations, recruitment and governance. It finished in October 2016.

Regional consultation meeting
Chakvi, Georgia

The first regional project meeting was held on 7 June 2016. Goals, milestones, and national perspectives were presented and synergies with other projects and international partners  were identified.

Project Governance
First regional steering committee

The first regional steering committee met in Brussels, Belgium on 29-30 November 2016. The committee discussed national and regional priorities and plans for 2017.

Country Perspectives

Project leadership in the countries

The key actors — the National Focal Points — ensure national coordination and implementation. They are appointed by the national governments and are taken from the Ministry of Environment and the National Statistical Office.

The overall method of implementation of the project is to build on the Eionet  model in the ENP East region.

Eionet is a partnership network of the EEA and its member and cooperating countries, involving more than 1 000 experts and 350 national institutions across Europe.

Country visits took place in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in 2016. The interactive discussions with key stakeholders further developed national work plans.
