Project governance: Third steering committee meeting

Tbilisi, 13-14 November 2018

The steering committee reviewed the results of the project in 2018 and set priorities for 2019. This third meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, and the National Statistics Office of Georgia.

Regional workshop on air quality monitoring and reporting

Copenhagen, 19-21 September 2018

This workshop evaluated the air quality monitoring and reporting status in the Eastern Partnership countries and shared examples from the EEA and Eionet (the European Information and Observation Network) and the EU policy context and discussed plans in the Eastern Partnership countries. 
The workshop is a part of  a new project activity that aims to increase the use and public accessibility of air quality measurement data in the Eastern Partnership countries, and it was attended by 25 experts from the region and the EEA.

Special session on environmental information during the OECD GREEN Action Task Force

Bratislava, 22 October 2018

The special session on environmental information focused on the importance of reliable and comparable data for improving the state of environment across the region for the benefit of policy-makers and the public. It was attended by approximately 50 representatives of the EU Member States, the Eastern Partnership and Central Asian countries, OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development), UNECE, UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and the European Commission (DG NEAR). It was organised by the EEA, the OECD and the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic.

Second workshop on reporting under Resolution No 8 (2012) of the Bern Convention

Paris, 7-8 November 2018

The ENI SEIS II East project supports the Eastern Partnership countries to prepare for the upcoming reporting under Resolution No 8 (2012) of the Bern Convention. A 2-day workshop was organised jointly by the EEA and the Council of Europe with the technical support of the European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity (ECT/BD).

Regional workshop on water— Sharing knowledge and experiences of developing indicators and indicator-based assessment

Istanbul, 27-28 November 2018

A 2-day regional workshop shared knowledge and experiences among the Eastern Partnership countries on indicator development, as integrated water management is crucial for knowledge-based policy implementation. UNECE 15th Joint Task Force on Environmental Statistics and Indicators

Geneva, 25-26 October 2018

This meeting discussed progress in establishing the Shared Environmental Information System and the amendment to the UNECE Guidelines for the Application of Environmental Indicators. The ENI SEIS II East project funded the participation of 10 experts from the Eastern Partnership countries.

Project activities in the countries

Air quality
The EEA air quality team visited Azerbaijan and Georgia between 18 and 21 December 2018 to assess the air quality monitoring and reporting infrastructure and networks in the countries.

Corine Land Cover
Ukraine, 25-27 September 2018, experts from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the State Research and Production Center (Pryroda), the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences and the State Space Agency of Ukraine received their first training session on the European methodology for mapping land cover and land use changes.

A second CLC training course took place in Georgia on 12 and 13 November 2018 to discuss the preliminary results of the status layer produced by national experts and the methodology for mapping CLC changes.

SOER development
In-depth training on developing state of environment reports took place from 2 to 4 October 2018 in Kyiv. This hands-on training, developed by the EEA and the Slovak Environment Agency, focused on deepening the capacity of the national experts to implement of selected indicators and assessment tools and reporting on the environment.
